You’re my Dog, 2024

This is a project about people who have adopted a dog from a shelter. It’s about how a human and a dog found each other, learned to live together, and how this ultimately affected everyone involved.

There are approximately one million stray dogs in Russia. The rescue of animals from the streets is, for the most part, carried out by private shelters, which operate solely on donations. It’s clear that one of the main tasks for volunteers is to find a home for a dog. For their part, shelters do everything possible to place a dog in a reliable home, but it’s not uncommon for dogs to be returned. The reasons vary: for instance, people often make the decision impulsively, without properly assessing their capabilities. Sometimes, expectations are too high, and other times, the dog turns out to be such a complex personality that the person, after trying everything, starts to think they made a mistake.

At this link, you can listen to the stories of the project’s participants (in Russian), where they share their personal experiences of adapting former stray dogs. These are the stories of those who managed to connect with their dog, solve all the problems, or learn to live with them; those who simply got lucky, and those who are still on their journey but have no intention of giving up. Stories about how time, patience, and care transform frightened and distrustful animals into devoted companions
