The Happiest Time 2015/2018

In 2014 something important happened. Russia annexed the Crimea, and TV turned into a channel for hatred. Greater Russia looked, lost in admiration, at people wearing camouflage, and with a new model of the Kalashnikov. What were we doing at the time?

We went dancing.

To survive in Russia, you need to be able to switch on some filters. The first commandment — never watch TV. The second commandment — your friends are your family. The third commandment — there’s a rave every Friday. The fourth commandment… Enough of that, we’ve already said the most important things.

If you’re sad and lonely, there’s a witch house for you. If you dare, teach yourself the gabber dance. Just touch each other’s hands, any old how. People being sad or down — that’s just for others. It’s hard to feel sad on MDMA.

Your style is you yourself. When you‘re on the move, you’re Nataraja. This entire drab, boring world disappears at the speed of light. Rave gives a space for love, an untamed isle of freedom. I even forgot who Putin is.

Seriously, all this was just like catching falling stars. If you had the chance to make a wish, it’d come true. A blazing flash in 2013 somehow fizzled out in a hostile environment by 2017. It all expanded a bit too big. Seems that’s what they call inflation. There were a lot of random people. Press attention. Blue whale sites. Fun memes. Getting pissed on Blazer upfront. Just don’t turn on techno any more.

Don’t believe anyone who says we’ve left darkness and destruction behind. You don’t call it the happiest time when you’re really hurt. We were all united by something. And like Hunter Thompson, we bombed along the crest of a fantastic wave. Greater Russia, her wars, violence, her tough like Japanese noise reality, remained a long way away from our consciousness. We tattooed our faces, and believed in the best. lf that wasn’t Paradise, then what was it?
